Issues and Stance

WHY THIS MATTERS:
Enough is enough. Any one of the senseless shootings targeting schoolchildren, religious worshipers, and individuals at movie theaters, clubs and concerts would have been enough. Each mass shooting compounds our responsibility to act to limit access to military-style (high capacity, high velocity) assault weapons. As a nation, we lead all countries in the number of gun-related deaths per capita1, a result of street violence, domestic violence, suicide and mass shootings. As a society, we can and must find a balance between reasonable gun control and safety policy and the right of an individual to bear arms. As legislators, we must lead the discussion on sensible gun policy, not the NRA. As a candidate, I stand resolute on this issue. [Read More]

It is imperative that we protect our environment and natural resources as our legacy for future generations. This involves reducing our impact on global climate change through reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and protecting our air, soil and water from contamination. Promoting practical and meaningful legislation to protect our environment requires the removal of the influence of fossil fuel corporate campaign contributions upon policy makers and policy decisions. Environmental stewardship is among the most important legacies we can leave for future generations. We deserve and are entitled to clean air to breathe and water to drink. Threats like climate change must be addressed and rectified. Maintaining the pristine nature of our State’s waterways and lakes is necessary not only for safe drinking water, but quality of life, with such recreational pursuits as fishing, boating and swimming, long into the future. [read more]

WHY THIS MATTERS:


Never has there been greater attention on the widespread and damaging impact of secual harassment and gender inequality, as brave individuals come forth to say #MeToo and Time’s Up. These are moral, ethical and critical issues for what should be a thriving, democratic society, where all people can feel safe, respected and valued. Everyone deserves to work in an environment free from harassment and discrimination, and to receive equal pay for equal work.  [read more]
